New Year's Eve Celebrations at the Franklin Palais proved quite a party! The Hot Samba Night theme attracted a colourful crowd and the festive fundraiser reaped $1500 profits to assist the ongoing restoration of the theatre.
The Palais was gaily dressed with tropical decorations, and the exotic cocktails, well stocked bar and plentiful food fuelled partygoers through until 2pm.
A Harley ride donated by Hobart's Scenic Sidecar Tours was awarded to the last standing limbo dancer, and there was more saucy movement on the dance floor as competitors vied for the dirty dancing prize -- of edible underwear donated by The Black Rose, Hobart's Adult Novelty Shop. Fashion vouchers awarded for the best costumes were made courtesy of Les Lees Menswear, Hobart and El's Fashion in Huonville.
The Franklin Progress Association would like to thank these and other sponsors who helped make the night a success: Griggs Butchers Huonville, Huon Aquaculture, Inghams Chicken, Port Huon Cold Store, Cascade Brewery, Eski, Pirelli Cables and Mobile Franklin.
Event coordinator Gail Galloway said, "Already we have been able to replenish some essential equipment for the Palais, and we recognize every donation, large and small helps towards re-establishing the social heritage of this historic venue."
The Franklin Palais is a community hall available for a variety of uses. Enquiries phone: 6266 3368.
